WHEREAS, the Northside Leadership Conference and Highmark presents the 8th Annual Northside Sandwich Week - Buns of Steel with 10 participating restaurants from May 9th to May 19th, 2019; and
WHEREAS, all of the sandwiches met in friendly but serious competition at the Northside Sandwich Sampler on May 9th, 2019; and,
WHEREAS, the restaurants and sandwiches featured in the 2019 Northside Sandwich Week are:

Penn Brewery - Deutschtown Dip
Max's Allegheny Tavern - Springtime Turkey Apple Delight
Fig & Ash - Pork Shank Cuban

Brugge on North - Pork Belly Bahn Mi
Bier's Pub - Smoked Salmon

WHEREAS, the 2019 Northside Sandwich Week featured the following celebrity judges:
Elias Khouri - Local Musician
Suzanne Lawrence - Local Stand-up Comedian
Olga Watkins - General Manager of Waffles Incaffeinated in Downtown Pittsburgh
WHEREAS, the First Runner-Up of Northside Sandwich Week selected by the public and the celebrity judges was Brugge on North for their "Pork Belly Bahn Mi"; and,
WHEREAS, the people and the celebrity judges chose the Northside Sandwich King to be Fig & Ash for his "Pork Shank Cuban" sandwich, consisting of parma capicola, pickles, Gruyere cheese, spicy mustard, and farm bread; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Northside Leadership Conference, Highmark and all of the participants and sponsors in the 2019 Northside Sandwich Week for making such a unique and enjoyable event possible; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare that Fig & Ash shall rule over the Northside with beneficence and grace for one year as Northside Sandwich King; and,
