Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend each of these African -American Principals for being a valuable asset to the Pittsburgh Public Schools by ensuring the educational and social growth of the students of the 9th Council District, thus demonstrating both inspirational leadership and perseverance. WHEREAS, in 1926, Dr. Carter G. Woodson launched Negro History Week, during the second week of February, as an initiative to bring national attention to the contributions of black people throughout American history. Today, we celebrate the month of February as “Black History Month,” educating our community and youth of the significant accomplishments and barriers of our African American leaders. This is an opportunity to acknowledge and examine the leadership, perseverance, and dedication of these leaders; and

WHEREAS, the Principals of the 9th Council District have had a valuable relationship with their students to educate their minds and continually lead them to academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, The African-American Principals of the 9th Council District are acknowledged as follow ; Dr. Marilyn Barnett, Principal of Westinghouse High School; Mrs. Celica Flewellen , Principal of Homewood Montessori School; Dr. Marvine Garrett, Principal of Crescent Elementary School; Ms. Regina Holley, Principal of Lincoln Elementary School; Dr. Craig Jackson, Principal of Reizenstein Middle School; Dr. Linda Lewis, Principal of Rogers Middle School; Mr. Richard Nicklos ,Principal of East Hills Elementary; Elder Milton Raiford ,Head Master of Imani Christian Academy; Ms. Yvona Smith, Principal of Lemington Elementary School; Dr. Patricia Washington, Principal of Belmar Elementary School; Dr. Donaldson Williams, Principal of Ethnan SDA Christian School; Ms. Gwendolyn Young , Principal of Holy Rosary and;

WHEREAS, These Principals are recognized for demonstrating leadership that ensures that the purpose of the life of each student is revealed, enhanced and prepared for the future. Whose goals ensure that no child is left behind; and

WHEREAS, It is acknowledged that “A Mind is a Terrible Thing To Waste.” and through the dedication of these individuals who make themselves accessible and visible to their student body that the future leaders of the City of Pitt...
