WHEREAS, ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History, is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans - ONE by ONE - to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty; and
WHEREAS, The ONE Campaign was founded by Bread for the World, CARE, DATA, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Plan USA, Save the Children US, World Concern, and World Vision, and works closely with the National Basketball Association, Rock the Vote, and the Millennium Campaign; and
WHEREAS, worldwide, ONE billion people live on less than $1 a day, ONE person in seven has no access to clean water for drinking, cooking or washing, ONE person in seven goes to bed hungry each night, and 18 million children have already lost one or both parents to AIDS; and
WHEREAS, allocating an additional ONE percent of the federal budget toward providing basic needs like health care, education, clean water, and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation; and
WHEREAS, in Pittsburgh from March 2-4, events at the Quiet Storm, Shadow Lounge, the Pittsburgh Glass Center, and New Evolution Studio will be used to raise awareness of ONE's issues; and
WHEREAS, Boston, Cleveland, Columbus, Hartford, Indianapolis, Nashville, Portland, Providence, Seattle, San Francisco and other cities across the United States have become a City of ONE.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the ONE Campaign for their work and dedication to fight global poverty and AIDS; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares the City of Pittsburgh to be a "City of ONE".
