WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women, Pittsburgh Section, will conduct its 112th Annual Meeting on May 10, 2006; and,
WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women is the oldest Jewish women's organization in the country whose mission is to improve the lives of women, children and families and whose mission has led the Pittsburgh Section to organize and operate some of the region's most important community service and advocacy initiatives ; and,
WHEREAS, .the Section will be installing a new President, recognizing its out-going President and honoring the following four women for their service to NCJW ,and
WHEREAS, DANA HIMMEL will be receiving the Emerging Leader Award for possessing the potential for assuming future NCJW leadership, understanding and supporting the NCJW purpose and programs; and,
WHEREAS, PHYLLIS COHEN will receive the Ruth and Jerome Lieber Leadership Award for motivating others to support and further the mission of NCJW and for holding multiple concurrent leadership positions in the organization; and
WHEREAS, LYNETTE LEDERMAN will receive the Presidential Award for demonstrating extraordinary volunteer service, actively participating in Section programs and assisting the President when called upon; and,
WHEREAS, DANITA HICKS will receive the Ruth Garfinkel Staff Excellence Award for demonstrating outstanding service and dedication to NCJW, maintaining a constant commitment to her job, having an outstanding day to day performance, growth and development and understating of the broader mission of NCJW; and,
WHEREAS, the Section will honor and recognize President Judy Cohen for her devoted and extraordinary leadership for the last two years and welcome and install incoming President Lynne Garfinkel to serve a two year term.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Dana Himmel, Phyllis Cohen, Lynette Lederman and Danita Hicks for their extraordinary service to NCJW and congratulates Judy Cohen for her successful term of service and welcomes Lynne Garfinkel to the Presidency of this prestigious organization; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares, May 10, 2006, National Council of Jewish Women Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
