WHEREAS, a person’s heritage and neighborhood can become a very important part of who they are, Rhonda Rawlings, daughter of Bill and Teddy Ford, grew up in the Sugar Top neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh with a lifelong love of the arts including music, theater, dance, and comedy; and

WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the participation of those activities which help to strengthen the community; and
WHEREAS, Rhonda, a graduate of Schenley High School, began working for the Controller’s Office on November 1, 1977, and has taken on numerous roles and responsibilities that monitor City government related expenditures and payments; and
WHEREAS, the Controller’s Office provides independent and objective oversight of all that safeguards the fiscal health of the City of Pittsburgh and protects City dollars from waste, fraud, and abuse; and
WHEREAS, Rhonda Rawlings has worked for City Controllers John McGrady, Thomas Flaherty, and Michael Lamb; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Stanton Heights, Rhonda has distinguished herself in the humble, selfless acts that she does for others, such as her involvement with Celebrate Recovery at Covenant Church on the Hill and the Save Our Rec Committee for the Robert E. Williams Memorial Park; and
WHEREAS, she has helped many people by her volunteerism, a claim that not many can make. The perseverance and leadership by Rhonda Rawlings exemplifies her dedication and the contributions towards improving the quality of life for all people in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh and City Controller does hereby recognize and honor Rhonda Rawlings for her 45 years of service and dedicated contributions to the City of Pittsburgh and wish her a happy retirement filled with good health, friends, family, and laughter; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh and City Controller does hereby declare, Tuesday, January 10, 2023 to be “Rhonda Rawlings Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
