WHEREAS, the World Beard and Moustache Championships is a time-honored international tradition that celebrates not only the art and skill of facial hair grooming, but the community, creativity, and camaraderie of beardsmen and enthusiasts around the globe; and
WHEREAS, since its modern founding in 1990 in Höfen, Germany, the Championships have traveled the world-from the Alpine villages of Austria to the streets of Austin and Anchorage-bringing together competitors from every continent to showcase their facial hair mastery in over two dozen competitive categories; and
WHEREAS, in 2025, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is honored to be the host city of this one-of-a-kind global event, welcoming hundreds of competitors and spectators to the cultural heart of our region at Heinz Hall over three festive days, July 3rd, 4th, and 5th; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 World Beard and Moustache Championships are proudly hosted by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Mad Viking Beard Club, whose commitment to fellowship, facial hair, and philanthropy will shine throughout this celebration, including generous support for the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation; and
WHEREAS, this year’s event upholds the mission of the World Beard and Moustache Association: to promote friendship among those with facial hair and those who admire it, to elevate the global appreciation of beards and moustaches, and to use creativity and compassion to bring people together; and
WHEREAS, the World Beard and Moustache Championships is a time-honored international tradition that celebrates not only the art and skill of facial hair grooming, but the community, creativity, and camaraderie of beardsmen and enthusiasts around the globe; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, County Executive Sara Innamorato, and City Councilwoman Theresa Kail Smith by virtue of the authority vested in us, do hereby designate July 3-5, 2025 as “World Beard and Moustache Championships Weekend” in Allegheny County.
