Title: WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to engender camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and, WHEREAS, each year, the Amen Corner awards the Fred E. Obley Award which honors the contributions of one of Pittsburgh's most well known and universally respected businessman, Fred E. Obley who served Amen Corner up to his death in 1962, and therefore honors a recipient for outstanding business leadership and excellence within the Pittsburgh community; and, WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Fred E. Obley Award is Joseph A. Massaro, the Chairman and CEO of Massaro Construction whose contribution to the business community of the city of Pittsburgh has been significant; and, WHEREAS, Joe Massaro has been a leader in the construction industry for 4 decades and remains active in all facets of the operation of Massaro Construction. WHEREAS, each year, the Amen Corner awards the Fred E. Obley Award which honors the contributions of one of Pittsburgh's most well known and universally respected  businessman, Fred E. Obley who served Amen Corner up to his death in 1962, and therefore honors a recipient for outstanding business leadership and excellence within the Pittsburgh community; and,
WHEREAS,  this year's recipient of the Fred E. Obley Award is Joseph A. Massaro, the Chairman and CEO of Massaro Construction whose contribution to the business community of the city of Pittsburgh  has been significant; and,
 
WHEREAS,  Joe Massaro has been a leader in the construction industry for 4 decades and remains active in all facets of the operation of Massaro Construction. He and his wife, Carol, have been active in a myriad of boards and  projects which include Catholic Charities, Duquesne University, Family House, Girl's Hope of Pittsburgh, LaRoche College, Catholic University of America , MS Society and St. Anthony's School for Exceptional Children ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Joe Massaro has been honored by the Italian Heritage Society, the Univserity of Pittsburgh, the National MS Society, Central Catholic High School, Operation Dig, Inc, NAIOP, St Anthony's School, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, the Jewish National Fund and, now on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the Annual Holiday Reception, Joe Massaro will be honored by Amen Corner.                   
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby Amen Corner for its good work and for recognizing Joseph Massaro with the Fred E. Obley Award  for his outstanding business leadership and excellence in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, November 29, 2007, to be "JOSEPH MASSARO DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
