Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Counil joins in the celebration of National Family Week in a collaborative effort to promote the social health and stability of our neighborhoods; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that November 21, 2004 through November 27, 2004 be hereby declared National Family Week in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the initiative to promote strong families begun by Sam Wiley, an Indianapolis, Indiana administrator and school teacher, in 196,8, now know as National Family Week, which is  recognized each year during the week of Thanksgiving, a time when families are traditionally together; and

 

WHEREAS, in honor of children and families in their communities Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, the Hill House Association of the Hill District and the Alliance for Children and Families are sponsoring National Family Week with additional funding from The Annie E. Casey Foundation, in the City of Pittsburgh, Sunday, November 22, 2004 through Saturday, November 27, 2004; and 

 

WHEREAS, in Pittsburgh, National Family Week recognizes the importance of the family in community life and celebrates the ethnic diversity whose threads weave the cultural, social and spiritual fabric of Pittsburgh families, the lifeline of our communities; and

 

WHEREAS,  to nurture the health of strong family dynamics, the sponsors and other social service networks  provide social service resources to the families in this area:  Allegheny County Children and Youth Services, Allegheny County Department of Human Services, United Way of Allegheny County, the Children's Welfare League of America, the Community Providers Association, PA Alliance for Children and Families, Parental Stress Center, and the Allegheny Kiski Health Foundation; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2004 theme, "Connections Count"  embraces the premise that children live better lives when their families are stong when they live in communities that connect them to economic opportunities, provide social networks and services, which include access to reliable transportation, employment  opportunities, education, childcare, housing, health care and support from community networks and institutions,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Counil joins in the celebration of National Family Week in a  collaborative effort to promote  the social health and stability of our neighborhoods; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that November 21, 2004 through November 27, 2004 be hereby declared National Family Week in the City of Pittsburgh.
