Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Jewelry Designer Donna DeStefano for the unique distinction of showing her masterpiece ring in Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Natural History exhibit , Out of This World! Jewelry in the Space Age and for her outstanding career in combining poetry, history and literature with her commitment to socially and environmentally responsible jewelry making practices ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 21 , 2015, to be " DONNA DESTEFANO DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Donna DeStefano is an award winning jeweler and expert goldsmith dedicated to bringing the rich tradition of the court jeweler to the modern luxury market using fair trade gems and sustainable precious metals; and,

 

WHEREAS, born in New York City, raised in Bridgeport, CT, and educated at the University of Bridgeport, The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and the University of Urbino in Italy, Donna currently lives in New York City where she crafts jewelry using goldsmithing techniques that have endured for centuries. Her commitment to socially and environmentally responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices while respecting the earth and its population are an extension of her desire to change the way America buys jewelry ; and,   

 

WHEREAS, before establishing her private atelier, Donna was the senior Goldsmith for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, responsible for creating the museum’s jewelry reproductions. She is a recognized expert in the jewelry industry, having been featured in Jewelry’s Shining Stars, a new book celebrating today’s most coveted jewelry designers as well as having been featured in trade publications, magazines and as a favorite of media stylists ; and,

 

WHEREAS, following a six month exhibit at the Forbes Galleries in New York City, Donna was invited to display her masterpiece ring as part of a larger show at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. Out of this World! Jewelry in the Space Age brings together scientific fact and pop culture in a showcase of wearable and decorative arts related to outer space. The exhibit travels forward through time to explore nearly 200 objects from landmark moments in space related history. Donna’s ring, titled ‘The Love that moves the sun and other stars” is crafted in 22 karat gold and features an oversized dome of solar rays surrounded by diamonds and topped with a cross made from pieces of the Gibeon meteorite. It is described as “a standout ring by Italian and American goldsmith Donna DeStefano….” and “one of the most fascinating pieces in the dazzling display -  heavenly !”.
