Title: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Principal Vincent J. Lewandowski Jr. for his hard work and dedication to the children of Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims that Tuesday, February 19h, 2008 be hereby declared as “Principal Vincent J. Lewandowski Jr. Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Principal Vincent J. Lewandowski Jr. is responsible for the 435 students at Pittsburgh Roosevelt PreK-5 School in Carrick and has held the position of principal of this school for the past five years and was recognized by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on January 11, 2008 for his commitment to his students; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lewandowski attends six weekly grade level meetings to communicate and collaborate with teachers while reviewing assessment results and student work at Pittsburgh Roosevelt; these grade level meetings have become recognized by the District as a practice that increases teacher collaboration that positively affects student achievement and that it has become a common practice among the district's 39 elementary schools, and  
WHEREAS, Mr. Lewandowski has successfully provided opportunities for parental involvement in their child's education and has advanced their understanding of how to educate a child for the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, these practices and the other innovative initiatives Mr. Lewandowski has implemented at Pittsburgh Roosevelt, has resulted in the school receiving the Pennsylvania Department of Education Keystone Achievement Awards for Adequate Yearly Progress for the school years 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, and 2006-2007, and
WHEREAS, due to his dedication, Pittsburgh Roosevelt student achievement has consistently exceeded the  Pittsburgh Public School district average and state targets in reading and math; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lewandowski received his BA in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education from St. Joseph College in New York City, his Master of Education Degree for Special Education, and his Principal Certification at the University of Pittsburgh ; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lewandowski began teaching in 1977, and since then has been a regular education teacher, special education teacher, a reading coach and an Assistant Principal, all at the elementary school level; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Principal Vincent J. Lewandowski Jr. for his hard work and dedication to the children of Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims that Tuesday, February 19h, 2008 be hereby declared as "Principal Vincent J. Lewandowski Jr. Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
