Body
WHEREAS, Bishop Eugene Thorpe began his ministry in Pittsburgh in 1965, he later founded the Northside Institutional Church in March of 1973.  The Northside Institutional Church of God and Christ was first located at 2131 Wilson Avenue in the Perry Hilltop section of the City.  Due to Bishop Thorpe's uplifting message and much needed ministry, he and his wife Pastor Lola Thorpe relocated to their second and much larger church in 1982.  This second location was located at 2305 Perrysville Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, Although the Northside Institutional Church was growing at a rapid rate, a tragic and unfortunate fire happened on Saturday, August 31, 1985, during a week long revival which destroyed the Northside Institutional Church.  Due to Bishop Thorpe's and Pastor Lola Thorpe's perseverance, the third Northside Institutional church home was located at 1200 California Avenue on Saturday, March 14, 1987.  Various international gospel luminaries such as Bishop Gilbert Patterson, Prophetess Juanita Bynum, and Bishop T.D. Jakes graced the third Northside Institutional Church location with their presence.; and,
WHEREAS, It has always been an integral part of the Northside Institutional Church to serve the Lord through service to the people of the Northside community and surrounding areas.  Television ministry, radio ministry, street canvassing ministry, community outreach, annual back to school bashes, and the innovative youth ministry have all been various ways to help push the vision of impacting the Northside community.; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Lola Thorpe was installed as Pastor of the Northside Institutional Church of God and Christ in 2006 after Bishop Eugene Thorpe suffered a series of strokes.  Through her leadership, the Northside Institutional Church has continued to prosper and grow its ministry at its most recent location at 302 West North Avenue in the Central Northside section of the City of Pittsburgh.; and,
WHEREAS, On Sunday, March 25, 2012, the Northside Institutional Church of God and Christ celebrated their 44th Anniversary in the City of Pittsburgh.  It is my hope that this phenomenal church will continue to serve Northside residents and the City of Pittsburgh through its various ministries and community outreach programs.; and,
