Title: Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Mr. Dock Fielder for his life long service to the Democratic Party as 12th Ward Chairman. His many endeavors, diligence and hard work has proved its high rewards. Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, declares Friday, October 1st, 2004 as "Dock Fielder Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, After more than 36 years of dedicated service Dock Fielder is retiring as the 12th Ward Chairperson. A recognition retirement dinner honoring him will be held at the Fox Chapel Yacht Club on October 1, 2004; and
 
Whereas, Dock Fielder began his career in politics in the 1960s when he was mentored by the late Magistrate Pappy Williams, and by 1968, he was a committeeman in East Liberty. He proved himself to be such an effective public servant that in 1972 Dock Fielder became the 12th Ward Chairman; and
 
Whereas, in 1970 Dock Fielder was sworn in as a State Constable and was hired as an Executive Assistant to the late Allegheny County Commissioner, Tom Forester.  In 1992 he retired from this position and during his retirement celebration, he was honored with proclamations from the Governor, Lt. Governor, Senate, and the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
Whereas, Dock Fielder is a lifetime member of the NAACP and is affiliated with organizations such as the Minority Business Affairs Advisory Group of Allegheny County and The Concerned Citizens of Greater Pittsburgh; and
 
Whereas, Dock Fielder has received numerous honors and awards for his outstanding and long-term achievement as a public servant and politician and is best known for organizing African American voters, finding jobs for African American and using straight forward strategies to influence politicians to support the African American community; and
 
Whereas, Dock Fielder was the first politician to ask for financial relief to keep the doors of Lemington Home open. He was also a driving force in laying the groundwork in persuading politicians to financially support the new community center for the Kingsley Association.

Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Mr. Dock Fielder for his life long service to the Democratic Party as 12th Ward Chairman. His many endeavors, diligence and hard work has proved its high rewards.
 
Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, declares Friday, October 1st, 2004 as "Dock Fielder Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
