WHEREAS, Philip Ameris, serves as the President and Business Manager of the Laborers' District Council of Western Pennsylvania, with jurisdiction in 33 counties in Western Pennsylvania and also as the Business Manager of one of the largest heavy construction local unions in the United States, the Construction General Laborers and Material Handlers Local Union 1058; and
WHEREAS, Philip Ameris currently serves on several Boards pertaining to training and pension in the Labor industries, he chairs the Western Pennsylvania Laborers' Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the Western Pennsylvania Laborers' Education and Training Trust Fund, the Laborers' Combined Funds of Western Pennsylvania Pension and Welfare Funds; and
WHEREAS, Philip Ameris has proudly represented members in all facets of the construction and private sector industry; and
WHEREAS, Philip Ameris has been a union member for over 25 years, beginning as a truck driver for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; and
WHEREAS, Philip Ameris has been involved in the martial arts of the past 40 years and has achieved the level of 8th Degree Black Belt; and
WHEREAS, Philip Ameris and his wife Jeanne, married for 30 years, are proud of their sons Philip Jr. and Jimmy, both also part of the Labor movement; and
WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the great leadership Philip Ameris exemplifies towards improving the quality of life for all working people in Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Allegheny County Labor Council Banquet, Philip Ameris is being honored as Labor's 2012 Man of the Year, for his continued service;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Philip Ameris on being named Labor's 2012 Man of the Year by the Allegheny County Labor Council, and does hereby declare April 20, 2012, to be "Philip Ameris - Labor's 2012 Man of the Year Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
