Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Steel City Dragons on all of their accomplishments in dragon-boat competitions; and wish them much success in their endless pursuit of excellence and team work; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday January 11, 2005 as "Steel City Dragon Day" here in the city of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Dragon-boats originated with Chinese fisherman, whose long, sleek crafts were tools of their trade.  Also used as a mode of transportation, their narrow design enabled them to move through the water with relative ease, and;
WHEREAS, for festival races fishing villagers would often build dragon boats that were a little sleeker, faster and prettier than their everyday fishing boats; and,
WHEREAS, the Steel City Dragons is comprised of more than 40 dragon boat paddlers and racers that range in age from 23 to 67 who join together in the singular goal of paddling the Dragon-Boat fast and well; and,
WHEREAS, Steel City Dragons Dragon-Boat racing team was formed during the summer if 2002 following the introduction of dragon-boats to Pittsburgh by the Urban Redevelopment Authority when they purchased two world championship style racing boats; and,
WHEREAS, in 2004 the Steel City Dragons raced in Washington D.C. with a 3rd place overall finish.  In Philadelphia, the Steel City Dragons were paddled there way to a record setting two minutes in the 500 meter heat  in the preliminary races and, of course, in Pittsburgh with wins in all classes; and,
WHEREAS, the people who make up the Steel City Dragons racing team are:
