WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division is hosting the Fall Conference of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association at the Sheraton Station Square October 9 through 11, 2003; and
WHEREAS, over the years the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association has distinguished itself as the premiere young lawyer organization, with nearly 140,000 members worldwide providing the pro bono and public service arm of the American Bar Association ; and
WHEREAS, membership in the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association is open to all members of the ABA under the age of 36 years or admitted to practice for ten years or less; and
WHEREAS, the Young Lawyers Division provides legal service through the Division's Center on Children and the Law, to disaster victims through FEMA and direct legal service to persons of modest means; and
WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Young Lawyers Division participates in numerous local service projects, including the Very Important Papers Project (V.I.P.), a program designed to educate low-income Allegheny County residents on legal matters and the Homeless Children's Holiday Party, which brightens the lives of homeless children and their mothers by sponsoring several parties throughout Allegheny County and distributing gifts from "Angel Trees" they have placed at various locations; and
WHEREAS, the Conference name is "A Summit For Children and Fall National Public Service Conference" and features how attorneys have a special role and responsibility to protect America's children from falling through the cracks; and
WHEREAS, attendees to the conference will hear leading advocates from around the Country explain how attorneys can make a difference in children's lives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh WELCOMES, THANKS and CONGRATULATES the Allegheny County Bar Association and the American Bar Association Young Lawyers for their dedication to helping those in need; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, October 9 thru 11, 2003 is declared "THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION AND THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION YOUNG LAWYERS" days in the City of Pittsburgh.
