WHEREAS, Mr. Charles Moffatt, who resides in Banksville, has dedicated himself to serve the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and Allegheny County Police Department since 1967; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Moffatt served eight years in the Air Force, received his bachelor's degree in administration of justice from the University of Pittsburgh, and he graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Moffatt's first assignment as a Pittsburgh Police officer was at the Zone 2 station in the Hill District and he is the first person in the city to hold seven ranks, including the first to be named Deputy Chief of Police; and,
WHEREAS, on February 17, 2004, after serving 36 years with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, he began his new position as the Superintendent of the Allegheny County Police Department, comprised of more than 250 officers and 50 civilians who patrol the regional parks, Pittsburgh International Airport and the Allegheny County Airport and a Detective Division which includes General Investigations, Homicide and Narcotics; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, the County Police provide a SWAT team and bomb disposal unit to any municipality within the county that requests assistance and provides policy advice to any one of the 119 municipalities within the County; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Moffatt serves on The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law Advisory Board and also works on a state commission that studies wrongful convictions; and,
WHEREAS, in his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Regina, their three children and 8 grandchildren; and is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. Charles Moffatt for his years of service to the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 6, 2014, to be "Superintendent Moffatt Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
