Body

Whereas Janet M. Devinney was born at St. Francis Hospital on June, 4, 1941.  After having been "kicked out" of their house in Bloomfield for having too many kids in the family, Janet's family moved into the Glen Hazel Projects in Hazelwood, where she spent four years before returning to Bloomfield.  In 1958 Janet graduated from Schenley High School. After 19 years of marriage, in 1959, her parents purchased a home in Garfield, where they all moved; and

Whereas, After marrying in 1965, Janet and her husband lived in Morningside for three years before eventually settling in Penn Hills.  Although they have lived in Penn Hills since 1968, Janet still considers herself a 'Bloomfield girl.'  Janet has two wonderful adult children: Kelly who married Kerry O' Donnell last year and Scott who works in video production; and

Whereas, Janet has been secretary to the controller of Mine Safety Appliances for the past nine years.  Before children, she worked for Carnegie Tech and Mellon Institute in Oakland before they merged.  Janet also worked at the B&LE Railroad office downtown, and part-time for several trucking companies in the Strip District; and

Whereas, As a former resident of the City of Pittsburgh, and someone who continues to come in to the city to both work and play, Janet has become heartsick with the condition of the city.  Not believing that her financial contribution has been equal to the services and goods she receives from the city, Janet mailed to the city a $52 check that she considers as her new occupation tax.  She hopes others will follow her lead with their own financial giving's, providing support to the city that she so dearly loves; and

Whereas, If her husband would be willing, Janet would move back into the great city of Pittsburgh today.
