WHEREAS, the United Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh is the umbrella Jewish planning and philanthropic organization in our City for 10 partner agencies and countless community programs, disbursing over 17 million dollars annually to various local, national and international causes; and
WHEREAS, this year, the United Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh has honored two individuals with the highest recognition it can bestow: community leader James Rudolph has won the Emanuel Spector Memorial Award, and JCC President and CEO Brian Schreiber has won the Doris and Leonard H. Rudolph Jewish Communal Professional Award; and
WHEREAS, James Rudolph is immediate Past Chair of the United Jewish Federation and has served in leadership roles in all aspects of Federation business, including most recently chairing the Jewish Learning Initiative which is responsible for the creation of the new Agency for Jewish Learning, leading the community to raise several million dollars to benefit the Israeli people in response to ongoing terrorism, and launching programs of lasting value with Pittsburgh's Partnership 2000 partners, the cities of Karmiel and Misgav; and; and
WHEREAS, James Rudolph is active in a host of community and national endeavors, including Chair of the Jewish Association on Aging and Hillel: Jewish University Center, Board Member of Jewish Family & Children's Service, the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation as well as Chair of the National Advisory Committee for Professional Volunteer Development, and Board Member on the United Jewish Communities Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, since 1999, Brian Schreiber has been responsible for managing the JCC's operations in the areas of early childhood, children youth and family, special needs, and adults and senior adults within an $11 million budget which encompasses programming and human services delivered by 140 full-time, 300 part-time and more than 500 seasonal employees, as well as overseeing the JCC's Squirrel Hill and South Hills branches, the Henry Kaufmann Family Recreation Park in Monroeville and Emma Kaufmann Camp; and
WHEREAS, under Brian Schreiber's guidance, the JCC has undertaken several necessary capital projects without exceeding budgets and upgraded the Center's security and member ID system, all the while enjoying significant membership growth, and engaging in successful partnerships with UPMC, Healthcare Dimensions Incorporated and the Pittsburgh Symphony; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the United Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh for nurturing outstanding community and communal leaders; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks James Rudolph and Brian Schreiber for excellence in community building.
