WHEREAS, Tyler Walters began his Scouting journey as a Tiger Cub and, through extraordinary commitment, character, and leadership, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction attained by only a select few and recognized as Scouting’s highest achievement;

WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout Service Project, Tyler demonstrated exceptional community commitment by designing and constructing trail steps for Tree Pittsburgh, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and protecting the urban forest;
WHEREAS, his project improved safe access to a riverfront educational trail along the Allegheny River by replacing a difficult incline with thoughtfully designed steps, constructed with consideration for the local environment, including resident wildlife;
WHEREAS, Tyler enhanced the educational value of the trail by engraving the names of local trees, including both common and scientific names, along with examples of leaves and seeds, thereby enriching the learning experience for visitors;
WHEREAS, in recognition of his service and leadership, Tree Pittsburgh unanimously named him Youth Volunteer of the Year;
WHEREAS, through his commitment to the principles of Scouting, he has developed valuable life skills including leadership, preparedness, teamwork, planning, and the ability to meet deadlines-skills that extend far beyond Scouting into his academic and personal life;
WHEREAS, Tyler has used these skills to distinguish himself academically by pursuing rigorous coursework including AP Biology, AP U.S. History, Forensic Science, and multiple computer science classes, with plans to further challenge himself in AP Computer Science, AP Environmental Science, and Organic Chemistry;
WHEREAS, he has also set ambitious goals for his future, aspiring to attend college, majoring in Marine Biology, and potentially earn a PhD to contribute to scientific research, while continuing to explore his interests in U.S. History and interdisciplinary studies;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Tyler Walters on fulfilling the highest requirements of Scouting and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, March 7, 2026 to be “Tyler Walters Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
