WHEREAS, On August 17, 2005 Hertz Gateway Center was forced to close and evacuate One, Two and Three Gateway Center due to a 36-inch water main break in downtown Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the Gateway Center office complex, managed by Hertz Gateway, experienced up to 17 feet of water, affecting nearly 150 tenants, 3,500 employees and more than 1 million square feet of office space; and-+
WHEREAS, complete occupancy of the office complex was restored within 10 days and all services restored within 25 days due to the outstanding accomplishment of the Hertz Gateway Center management team who provided outstanding leadership and demonstrated extraordinary commitment despite tremendous obstacles to restore occupancy as quickly and as safely as possible; and
WHEREAS, accolades to the Hertz Gateway Center management team are bestowed upon: Debra Donley, General Manager; Suzanne Priches, Property Manager; and Gary Bonn, Manager; Design and Construction; and
WHEREAS, accolades go to the MOC, Inc. staff, especially: John Greenwald, President; Richard Perallo, Senior Project Manager and Steve Nathanson, Assistant Project Manager served as mechanical systems consultants and provided superb project supervision, strategy and quality assurance around-the-clock throughout restoration; and
WHEREAS, accolades go to a dedicated team of contractors and suppliers who worked over 500,000 man hours in a ten-day period to restore occupancy and services to the complex; and
WHEREAS, accolades go to the team of committed consultants, including: Attorney Edward Diggs of Kirpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham, LLP; insurance adjuster Howard Sproul of AIDGDC on behalf of Lexington, and AIG company; and communications advisors Erin Byrne and Tom Dowling of Burson-Marsteller who provided strategic counsel and information management vital to the restoration process; and
WHEREAS, the tenants and employees of the Gateway Center office complex are also commended for their demonstrated patience, understanding and support while the buildings were inoperable.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, Pittsburgh City Council congratulates and acknowledges the superior team work of the Hertz Gateway Center management team in solving and completing restoration after the August 17, 2005 water main break in the City of Pittsburgh—restoring an essential place of business in our city.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED THAT, Tuesday, September 20, 2005 be declared "Gateway Center Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
