Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Friends of the Riverfront and the Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race for providing all city residents with a weekend of excitement and achievement, showcasing top athletes from around the country as well as the incredible City in which the races take place; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Sunday, August 1, 2010, to be Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Friends of the Riverfront, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable riverfront development throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, including riverfront trails and greenways with public access and continuous connections to other trails throughout Allegheny County and other parts of the region; and,
 
WHEREAS, Friends of the Riverfront's mission is to increase awareness of and engagement with the Pittsburgh region's rivers and riverfronts through activities, stewardship and expansion of water and land trails; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race facilitated by Friends of the Riverfront will take place at Northshore Riverfront Park and the Great Lawn along the Allegheny River between PNC Park and Heinz Field where participants and spectators alike will view the stunning backdrop of the beautiful city over the three vital rivers in the region; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race brings together more than one thousand tri-athletes-from beginners to professionals-to challenge the demanding, world-class course; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Riverfront and the Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race supports the continued development of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, a beautiful and active trail and greenway system running for 37 miles around Pittsburgh along both sides of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers that is an almost complete public route for cyclists, walkers, runners, and in some places rollerbladers.
