Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes and commends the Department of Public Works 5th Division and the Emerald Parks Division for their dedicated service to our community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to be "DPW 5th Division Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works Street Maintenance Bureau steadfastly serves the City of Pittsburgh through its essential responsibilities, including street resurfacing, snow and ice removal, street sweeping, disaster response, and land record management-ensuring our streets remain safe, clean, and accessible for all; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Bureau is organized into five divisions, with the 5th Division-led by Street Maintenance Supervisor John McClory-covering the majority of District 2; and,

 

WHEREAS, John McClory began his career with the City of Pittsburgh in 1985 in a temporary role at the City Garage, becoming a full-time member of the Department of Public Works in 1988. Over the years, he advanced from Skilled Laborer to Acting Foreman across both Public Works and Parks Divisions, where he stayed for 14 years. He later excelled as a Tractor Operator proficient in all street maintenance equipment; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2006, John became the Acting Supervisor of the DPW 5th Division, ultimately earning the position of Street Maintenance Supervisor, a role he has honorably held since 2007. Since 2014, he has also served as the backup DPW Operations Superintendent, stepping into the Superintendent role whenever called upon; and,

 

WHEREAS, Supervisor McClory currently leads a dedicated team of 26 Laborers and Drivers and 4 Foremen within the 5th Division. He is supported by Ryan Murray, Parks Maintenance Manager of the Emerald Parks Division, who oversees 14 Laborers and 1 Foreman responsible for maintaining parks and senior centers within the 5th Division and providing additional assistance, including snow removal, when needed; and,

 

WHEREAS, through their steadfast cooperation and commitment, the 5th Division and Emerald Parks Division work tirelessly to protect the safety and well-being of Pittsburgh’s residents and visitors; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes and commends the Department of Public Works 5th Division and the Emerald Parks Division for their dedicated service to our community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to be “DPW 5th Division Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
