Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh Congratulates and Commends the PNA and the West End Pulaski Society for keeping the Polish language and traditions alive for all these many years; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Sunday, March 13, 2005 is declared "POLISH NATIONAL ALLIANCE DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the year 2005 marks the 125th anniversary of the Polish National Alliance; and

 

WHEREAS, after Poland lost its independence in the Eighteenth Century, many proud and patriotic Polonians preferring exile to bondage, sought refuge in the free land of the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, on February 15, 1880 a group of leading Polish immigrants met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and founded the Polish National Alliance of the United States of North America for the following purposes:

To form a better Union of the Polish people in the United States;

To insure to Polish Americans a proper moral, intellectual, economic and social development;

To foster and cherish the best traditions of the culture of the United States and Poland;

To preserve the mother tongue; and

To promote more effectually all legitimate means for the restoration and preservation of the independence of the Polish Nation in Europe.

 

WHEREAS, in 2005 the Polish National Alliance has Lodges throughout the United States with the Polish Information Center in Chicago serving nearly 3,000 clients annually; and

 

WHEREAS, the Polish National Alliance is not only an insurance association, but supports a wide range of endeavors, from scholarship  programs, helping victims of natural disasters, food baskets to needy families, to a variety of sports and youth programs; and

 

WHEREAS, on Sunday, March 13, 2005, the West End Pulaski Society, Lodge #1052 of the Polish National Alliance in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, is celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Polish National Alliance with a Mass at St. Stanislaus Church in the Strip District followed by a Communion breakfast at Lodge #1052 in the West End.
