Title: WHEREAS, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald is in his third and final term. He will leave a legacy of an impeccable work ethic and being able to bring people and organizations together to solve problems; and,

WHEREAS, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald is in his third and final term. He will  leave a legacy of an impeccable work ethic and being able to bring people and organizations together to solve problems; and,

WHEREAS, under his leadership, quality of life in the county is improving as the county invests in facility improvements, programming and events in county parks. During his third term, Mr. Fitzgerald has set priorities that included focusing on workforce development, connecting residents to jobs by improving public transportation and infrastructure, and investing in expanded outreach and services through a newly-renamed Department of Equity and Inclusion; and,

 

WHEREAS, he has been committed to investing in our future by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, including renewable resources in our mix of energy. Electric cars are being added to the county’s fleet, recycling efforts have increased and the county is moving towards accomplishing a net zero energy park; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rich is a member of several boards and organizations including the County Executives of America, the Remake Learning Council, the National Association of County Officials, Large Urban County Caucus and Chair of the Southwestern PA Commission. In 2022, he was named Pittsburgh Magazine’s Pittsburgher of the Year and in 2023, he was given the Judge James R. McGregor Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Community by Amen Corner; and,

 

WHEREAS, raised in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield-Garfield neighborhood, Rich graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a business minor. He and his wife, Cathy, have eight children, Caroline, Erin, Jackson, Jocelyn, Louisa, Madeline, Mara, and Tanner; and, 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend County Executive Rich Fitzgerald for his commitment to the County of Allegheny and its residents; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, April 17, 2023 to be “Rich Fitzgerald Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
