Resolution authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works to enter into a Project Cooperation Agreement with Tree Pittsburgh for the purpose of supporting Tree Pittsburgh’s efforts to promote and advance the City of Pittsburgh’s Urban Forest Master Plan. Not to exceed $36,500.00.

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1.The Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works are hereby authorized to enter into a Project Cooperation Agreement with Tree Pittsburgh pursuant to which Tree Pittsburgh will organize and manage several tree related activities and the City of Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission is authorized to provide funding in an amount up to $36,500.00. Funds shall be chargeable to and payable from: Fund # 28053; Item 5071; JDE Job #4000285300. The form and substance of the Project Cooperation Agreement is subject to the approval of the City Solicitor as to form and substance.

Whereas, Tree Pittsburgh is a full-partner with the Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission and the City of Pittsburgh to care and maintain the trees within the City of Pittsburgh.
Whereas, Tree Pittsburgh in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission in accordance with the City of Pittsburgh has developed a comprehensive approach to managing the City’s trees, including but not limited to providing tree care events, tree planting events, advancing Tree Tender training, increasing awareness of the importance of trees in regard to storm water and shade canopy and electing to fundraise on a regular basis to provide funding assistance with tree care to the City of Pittsburgh Forestry Division.
Whereas, Tree Pittsburgh has the full support in the form of a motion of the Shade Tree Commission to provide funding assistance for the following: $5,000 for various tools and equipment for neighborhood tree care events; $10,000 to support Summer Internship Programs to support tree care; $5,000 for developing educational printed materials for pest and disease such as the Long-Horned Asian Beetle; $5,000 for Canopy Level sponsorship for Arbor Aid annual fundraiser; $5,000 Training pruning on young Elm trees throughout the City; $3,000 to support Arbor Day of Service; $1,500 for trees at Davis Bridge to create trail entry; $2,000 for Pocket Park (Small) inventory for pruning project.
Whereas, The City and the Shade Tree Commission have agreed to cooperate with Tree Pittsburgh (collectively “the Project Partners”) by providing funding and co-project management to advance Forestry efforts as outlined in the City of Pittsburgh’s Urban Forest Master Plan.
