Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Pittsburgh Allderdice High School for its consistent and unwavering emphasis on academics , rigor and diversity in education and congratulates the students who have achieved National Merit Scholar designations; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 22, 2012, to be “ALLDERDICE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, the largest of the Pittsburgh Public Schools' urban high schools, has drawn students from nine diverse communities and offers academic programs at all levels, complemented by a full range of interscholastic, intramural and co-curricular clubs; and,
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School has a proud history, a long tradition of excellence and a distinguished record of being amongst the top high schools in the country, having consistently secured Middle States Association accreditation and the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education; and,
 
WHEREAS, in the 2011-2012 school year, there were 12 National Merit Semi-Finalists, 18 Letters of Commendation, 1 National Achievement and 4 recipients of the National Hispanic Recognition Program at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School; and,
 
WHEREAS, National Merit Scholar Finalists from Allderdice are Barrett Adams, Anna Sophia Blee-Goldman, Joseph Boninger, Daniel Brusilovsky, Elieen Burke, Miguel Camacho-Horvitz, Ashwin Iyengar, Alexander Josowitz, Chareeni Kurukulasuriya, Melanie Levine, Maya Rosen and Benjamin Schwartz; and,
 
WHEREAS, Letters of Commendation were awarded to Daniel Cummings, Joaquin Gonzalez-Kanterewicz, Ben Hoffman, Nick Kachur, Nicholas Kass, Evan Kimel, Elizabeth Landis, Denise Monti, Shay Park, Jacob Pasternak, Elizabeth Pugh, Teresa Putinsky, Harry Rosenberg, Laura Salgarolo, David Stack, Benjamin Swaby, Eve Swearingen, Rachel Weingart and Michelle Yurovsky; and,
 
WHEREAS, Benjamin Swaby was named the recipient of the National Achievement Scholarship Program which is given to qualified African American students who meet rigorous requirements. The National Hispanic Recognition Program identifies outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students and Allderdice students Miguel Camacho-Horvitz, Eliot Golin, Joaquin Gonzalez-Kanterewicz and Denise Monti have been named recipients.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Pittsburgh Allderdice High School for its consistent and unwavering emphasis on academics , rigor and diversity in education and congratulates the students who have achieved National Merit Scholar designations; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 22, 2012, to be "ALLDERDICE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
