Whereas, On Tuesday March 23, 2004, for Women in History Month, we honor Ms. Jackie Dixon, who believes that "Success can make you go one of two ways. It can make you a prima donna, or it can smooth the edges away, take away the insecurities, and let the nice things come out."; and
Whereas, Ms. Jackie Dixon, after graduating valedictorian of Westfield High School in 1967, earned enough educational scholarships and grants to cover all four years of college. Having a knack for numbers, Jackie graduated "magna cum laude" in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration from Alabama A & M University in Huntsville; and
Whereas, Ms. Jackie Dixon was immediately recruited by PPG Industries, Inc., which allowed her to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA, and work in a variety of areas for 17 years. Her diverse work experience caught the eye of Giant Eagle Inc. where she became Credit Manager in 1991. Ms. Jackie Dixon's business acumen and relationship-building skills have resulted in a positive impact on the company's profitability and immensely enhanced Giant Eagle's good standing in our communities; and
Whereas, Ms. Jackie Dixon not only committed herself to her work but also to our communities by developing relationships with key civic and community leaders on local, state, and national levels. Ms. Dixon participates on numerous boards and committees such as; Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medical Review Committee, Association for Children & Adults with Learning Disabilities, Magee Women's Leadership Caucus, Magee African-American Womancare Committee, and the Greater Pittsburgh YWCA. Jackie is also a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and the African-American Chamber of Commerce, the League of Women Voters and the Community Outreach Committee of the Fox Chapel Area Newcomers Club. Also, actively serving the community Ms. Dixon is also a member of Dwelling House Savings and Loan; and
Whereas, Ms. Jackie Dixon was nominated by Congresswoman Melissa Hart to attend a national African American Leadership Summit on May 13-14, 2003 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. She received the nomination again this year and will also participate in the Second Annual Leadership Summit on April 27-28, 2004 on Capitol Hill; and
Whereas, Ms. Jackie Dixon, a woman of spirit and spirituality, is a member of Petra International Ministries, she remains committed to smoothing the edges away, taking away the insecurities, and letting the nice things come out.

NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh extends its thanks and appreciation to Ms. Jackie Dixon for her many years of community service to the City. Ms. Jackie Dixon has proved to this City that her belief is upheld that "Business is Ultimately Relationships, Not Numbers."
