Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council extends its gratitude to Director Piotrowski for her years of public service and for her lasting contributions to the City of Pittsburgh and its future generations; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 9, 2025 to be "Jamie Piotrowski Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, School Board Director Jamie Piotrowski honorably served on the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Directors from 2021 to 2025, representing the communities of South Pittsburgh; and

 

WHEREAS, Director Piotrowski who has long championed the importance and promise of public education for every student in the city; and,

 

WHEREAS, Director Piotrowski’s tenure represents a meaningful changing of the guard in South Pittsburgh, marking a moment when a new generation of young civic leaders stepped into elected roles with renewed energy and commitment to public service; and,

 

WHEREAS, during her service, Director Piotrowski served as Chair of the Policy Committee and Co-Chair of the Education Committee, offering steady leadership and guiding critical policy development for the District; and,

 

WHEREAS, Director Piotrowski played a key role in crafting and advancing policies that strengthened board operations, increased transparency, and improved District functionality, including policies that: improved internal board governance; allowed the District to formally accept sponsorship funds; and created the Student Board Representative Policy, ensuring student voices have a meaningful place in District decision-making; and,

 

WHEREAS, Director Piotrowski consistently advocated for Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable and at-risk students, including English Language Learners, students facing instability, and families navigating systemic barriers, always centering equity, dignity, and community participation in her decisions; and,

 

WHEREAS, beyond her School Board service, Director Piotrowski also served on the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees, further demonstrating her dedication to literacy, education access, and community enrichment; and,

 

WHEREAS, Director Piotrowski is a lifelong Pittsburgher residing in the Carrick neighborhood, a dual-degree graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Social Work and Public & International Affairs, and a licensed social worker in Pennsylvania, grounding her leadership in compassion, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to public service; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Director Jamie Piotrowski for her exceptional service to Pittsburgh Public Schools, her steadfast advocacy for equitable education, and her unwavering dedication to students and families across the District; and,
