Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, April 26th, 2019 and Saturday, April 27th, 2019 to be "Minority Health Awareness Days" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Allen Place Community Services, Inc. is celebrating its 10th anniversary for its dedication to health and wellness promotion programs. This anniversary is a historical mark in their healthcare records to ensure the right information gets delivered to the community members for advancing human health and spiritual engagement programs; and,

 

WHEREAS, Allen Place will be holding The Come Gather At Our Table of Minority Health awareness, education, and support dinner on Friday, April 26th, 2019. This dinner aims to salute diverse notable physicians, nurse specialists, and research clinicians; and,

 

WHEREAS, the honorees have fostered partnerships that promote the chain of trust and displayed faith, health promotion, and community service in improving health outcomes for Allegheny County communities through health and wellness initiatives, workshops, and outreach; and,

 

WHEREAS, the physician honorees are: Dr. David Anderson, Dr. Christopher Allen, Dr. Anita Edwards, Dr. Steven Evans, Dr. Rhonda Johnson, Dr. Dana McBride-Banks, and Dr. Rhonda Moore-Johnson; and,

 

WHEREAS, the nurse specialist honorees are: Pamila Bullie, Lana Couzzans, Anne Germany, Elaine Jenkins, Dr. Millie Jones, LaShawn Kemp, Dorretta Lemon-Fallen, Edith Smith-Ridley, Reverend Le Esther Sanders, Lorraine Starsky, and Julia Suber; and,

 

WHEREAS, the research clinician honoree is Jacqueline Simon; and,

 

WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 27, 2019 the Minority Health Observance Summit is hosted by Allen Place Community Services, Inc. and the Faith-Based Health Collaborative of Churches in Allegheny, Armstrong, and Westmoreland County. The summit health awareness day theme is “Creating a Culture of Health Promotion: Pathways to Traumatic Intervention Programs in the Church and Community.” This summit is to provide the opportunity to explore alternate paths that enable families to have open channels of communication for quality and safety in dealing with victims of violence; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Minority Health Summit has three objectives for participants. The first objective is to increase awareness of health risks associated with traumatic environments. The second objective is to explore strategies to build trust and engage families and caregivers in ensuring health service needs are addressed. The third objective is to inform participants of local, state, and national health services and resources; and,
