Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Dr. Campbell on his 2nd anniversary serving as Reverend of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, and does hereby declare October 18, 2015 to be "Dr. Vincent K. Campbell Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

Whereas, Dr. Vincent K. Campbell, a gifted preacher, teacher, and administrator, a man of God who loves and enjoys spending time with his wife Jamie Lynn Durant and five children, was born in Orlando, Florida before relocating to St. Paul, Minnesota where he was licensed by the gospel ministry in 1997 by the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota; and,

 

Whereas, Dr. Campbell graduated with honors from American Baptist College with a degree in Biblical & Theological Studies before obtaining a Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt University Divinity School, where he served as President of the Vanderbilt Black Seminarians and Chairperson of the Student Honor Council, as he went on to earn a Doctor of Ministry Degree at Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta, Georgia; and,

 

Whereas, Dr. Campbell’s Master’s Thesis at Vanderbilt University Divinity School received the distinguished grade of Honors and upon graduation he was awarded the coveted Umphrey Lee Dean’s Award; and,

 

Whereas, further recognitions were awarded to Dr.Campbell  in 2001, when he received the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar Award, and from Tennessee State University in 2009, when he was the recipient of the Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Community Service Award for “outstanding spiritual and community service and leadership”; and,

 

Whereas, Dr. Campbell was employed as the Dean of Students and Chapel at American Baptist College from 2002 - 2004, where he received pastoral training and guidance under the pastorates of Rev. James Thomas and Rev. Dr. William F. Buchanan, until he was ordained by Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee; and,

 

Whereas, after faithful service as an Associate Minister at Kayne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, he was extended a call to serve as Pastor in November of 2004; and,

 

Whereas, from 2005-2012, Dr. Campbell worked at Vanderbilt University as a field Education Seminar Instructor, served as a Commissioner in the Work Release Commission for the Davidson County Sherriff Office, served on several non-profit boards of directors in Nashville, including an appointment to Belmont University Board of Trustees in 2010, and served as an outreach worker for MANNA, Inc., where he worked for the poor by advocating for full access to the food stamp program;

 

Whereas, as a further example of his dedication to the community , Dr. Campbell was appointed by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean in 2010 to serve as the Commissioner of the Metro Human Relations Commission; and,

 

Whereas, Dr. Campbell moved to Pittsburgh to serve as Reverend of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in the Hill District in the fall of 2013, replacing longtime shepherd Reverend Dr. J. Van Alfred Winsett, who retired in May of 2012;
