Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to pay tribute to the commitment and dedication of Ronald Wilburn, as he sought to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of youth through education, mentorship, and vocational training; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby wishes to recognize the 3rd Saturday in July as "Ronald Wilburn Community Day," with special acknowledgement being paid to the Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church for its efforts in continuing Ronald Wilburn's vision for creating a strong and empowered community that seeks to nurture the potential and dignity inherent in each and every person.

WHEREAS born on February 9th, 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ronald Wilburn devoted his life to being both an exemplary leader within the community and an outstanding role model for  young people; and
WHEREAS in July of 1999, Ronald began to formulate and promote his vision for a "Hill District Community Day," an event during which all Hill District residents would be welcomed, respected, and celebrated; and
WHEREAS since 1999, Ronald Wilburn sought continually through this Community Day to unite all Hill District residents, regardless of differences in race, religion, age, or background, by creating a festive occasion during which all community members could come together in order to enjoy each other's company and receive a variety of donated goods and services; and
WHEREAS Ronald spent countless hours of his personal time in planning and organizing this celebratory and inclusive gathering, thereby demonstrating the positive actions and contributions made by African American males within their communities, with special emphasis being placed upon the important work undertaken by the members and leaders of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and
WHEREAS thanks to the efforts of Ronald Wilburn, along with the work of over 50 volunteers per year and multiple vendors, the "Hill District Community Day" has succeeded in attracting and benefiting over 1,000 residents, who range in age from 1 to 90; and
WHEREAS since 2006, the Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church, operating in conjunction with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, have designated the 3rd Saturday during the month of July as, "Ronald Wilburn Community Day" in Pittsburgh's Hill District.
