Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Robert L. Travis for his exemplary work ethic and congratulates Robert on earning the Eagle Scout Award through his determination, perseverance and commitment to the community ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, December 27, 2008 to be “ROBERT L. TRAVIS DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law so that they can become responsible, participating citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the Eagle Scout designation for the Boy Scouts of America is the highest advancement in Scouting and one in which a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills; and,
WHEREAS,  to advance to the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must pass specific tests that are organized by requirements and merit badges, signifying mastery of skills of personal interest in 21 of the 120 available merit badges; and,
WHEREAS, Robert L. Travis who began his scouting career in the third grade in Troop #59 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church and of Boy Scout Troop # 379 in East Liberty, having completed all requirements, earned the designation of Eagle Scout on July 20, 2008, and in honor of this achievement will receive it at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on December 27, 2008, at St. James A.M.E. Church; and,
WHEREAS,  Robert's Eagle Scout Project was to coordinate Troop #379 to paint the front and back parking lots, gates, handicapped areas and all metal surfaces at the St. James A.M.E. Church, thereby improving the location and parking situation for parishioners, visitors and residents. Robert has also organized a toy drive at Taylor Allderdice High School in collaboration with New Dawn Ministry and Ebenezer Baptist Church and also organized a Blood Drive with the American Red Cross at the Ebenezer Baptist Church after researching the low incidence of blood donations amongst African American citizens.
WHEREAS, Robert Travis graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School where he was the starting quarterback in his senior year and is currently a freshman at St. Vincent's College majoring in Communications.
