Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. and the talent, energy and leadership of its past and present leaders and dedicated members who improve lives in and around Pittsburgh by identifying unmet needs, forging effective coalitions and working for change, all on a volunteer basis. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, October 7, 2012, “JUNIOR LEAGUE OF PITTSBURGH DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc., incorporated on October 7, 1922, is an organization of women with an exclusively educational and charitable purpose committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of its trained volunteers; and,

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. recognizes the critical role of the voluntary sector in initiating, demonstrating and advocating for needed change, monitoring the public sector objectively, and influencing governmental program development and regulation; and,

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. is committed to action on issues affecting children, women, health, literacy, domestic violence, substance abuse, aging and voluntarism; and,

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. has been instrumental in the founding of notable institutions that provide essential educational and social services, among them the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, Transplant Recipients International Organization, Inc. (TRIO), Vintage Senior Community Center, Three Rivers Adoption Council, Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, The Center for Grieving Children, and others; and,

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Pittsburgh, Inc. will celebrate its 90th Anniversary with a Gala at The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, on Friday, October 19th, and will honor Elizabeth Hobbs with its Anne D. Johnston Award for Community Impact;
