WHEREAS, Keysha Gomez is a first generation American born in the Bronx NY, and raised in Miami Florida by her mother Sonya O. Boyne and Stepfather Howard Boyne and is being recognized for more than 25 years of service to youth as an advocate and volunteer; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Gomez began volunteering as a teenager at her home church, Ebenezer Community Church, where they ministered to youth, incorporating life skills and workforce training ; and,
WHEREAS, Keysha and her husband, John Paul Gomez, moved to Pittsburgh in 2010 where she began coaching with Carlynton Little Cougars Cheerleading association and realized youth have few options outside of sports and dance for positive enrichment. With her husband John, she co-founded H.O.P.E. for Tomorrow, Inc., where she is the Executive Director, providing social and life skills to youth in the community, currently serving at Pittsburgh Langley K-8; and
WHEREAS, she also volunteers as a VBS facilitator and youth dance ministry leader at Abiding Faith Ministry located in Sheraden, and has been a member of the school PTO, serving as Vice President and School Board Council Representative ; and,
WHEREAS, Keysha is also a founding member of other community coalitions including the WestEnd P.O.W.E.R. , G.L.I.D.E. Project, and the Miami-Dade County Health Department H.E.L.P. network and is a 2018 graduate of CORO Next Neighborhood Leaders Program; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, she was recognized as one of the 40 outstanding individuals under the age of 40 by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP, was awarded the Youth Ally Award by Cupcakes Most Wanted, and voted Pittsburgh Brown Mamas “Mamapreneur of the Year; and,
WHEREAS, Keysha is thankful for her family support system and is proud of her family’s military background. She is Granddaughter to Charles and Linette Brown; Niece to Lorna P. Baker, Winsome Thomas, SFC Quince Brown, Sr and SPC Robert Brown, Sr; Sister to SGT Anthony C. Brown, Brijett Brown-Boyne and Pvt Garfield Brown-Boyne; and,
WHEREAS, her best support system is her husband John Paul Gomez and her six children, K’aijha, Naomi, Elijah, Malachi, Micah and Jeremiah; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Keysha Gomez for over 25 years of service to youth and her community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, November 19, 2018, to be “Keysha Gomez Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
