WHEREAS, Michael E. Lamb, son of Thomas and Barbara Lamb, grew up in the Beechview neighborhood and now resides in Mount Washington with his wife Jill; and,

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of Penn State University, earned a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law and a Master’s Degree from the Heinz School of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. He is also a graduate of the Local Government Academy and an attorney admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and,

 

WHEREAS, Michael Lamb’s public career began in 2000 as the Allegheny County Prothonotary. As an outspoken supporter of row office consolidation, he even advocated for the elimination of his own elected position, taking effect in 2005; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lamb was elected Controller of the City of Pittsburgh in 2007, and took office on January 7, 2008. He believes the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the participation of those activities that further strengthen the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, as Controller, Michael envisioned a more transparent City government and created Open Book Pittsburgh, a website to search and view all City contracts and campaign contributions. He released a user-friendly version of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report titled the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) that provides a more understandable picture of Pittsburgh’s finances and information; and,

 

WHEREAS, Michael Lamb worked to make the Controller’s Office more effective and the City more efficient, he with officials from neighboring municipalities, was instrumental in the creation of CONNECT, The Congress of Neighboring Communities, in order to identify common public-policy challenges; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Michael is a founding co-chair of A Plus Schools and serves on the boards of the Kane Foundation, the Catholic Youth Association, the Downtown Pittsburgh YMCA, and 3 Rivers Wet Weather. He is also a participating member of the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation, and the Board of Fellows of the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute of Politics; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Michael E. Lamb for his service, dedication, and contributions towards improving the quality of life for all people in City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, November 20, 2023 to be “Michael E. Lamb Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
