Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Allegheny-Fayette County Labor Council and congratulates this year's honorees; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Friday, October 10, 2025 to be "ACLC Honorees Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Allegheny-Fayette County Labor Council is a local branch of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), which represents the collective interests of its affiliated unions and the working people; and,

 

WHEREAS, each year, the Labor Council hosts its esteemed Honorees Banquet to celebrate individuals whose tireless efforts have advanced the cause of labor, improved workplace conditions, and elevated the standard of living for working-class families. These honorees embody the spirit of resilience, leadership, and justice that defines the labor movement; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ralph Sicuro, President of Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local 1, has been named the 2025 “Labor Man of the Year.” His steadfast leadership and advocacy have strengthened protections for first responders and reinforced the values of service and safety within the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Roxanne Brown, International Vice President of the United Steelworkers (USW), has been named the 2025 “Labor Woman of the Year” in recognition of more than 20 years of dedicated service. Her work on Capitol Hill and with key regulatory bodies has been instrumental in shaping policies that support USW members, especially in critical areas such as defense procurement, environmental standards, and energy policy; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Father Jack O’Malley Social Justice Award is being presented to the Western Pennsylvania Union Veterans Council in honor of its exceptional dedication to advocating for working-class veterans, by addressing the critical issues that affect them-particularly the importance of access to quality jobs and a fully funded and staffed VA-ensuring that those who have served our country are not overlooked in the ongoing pursuit of fair labor practices; and,
