WHEREAS, in 1927, Alpha Omega Chapter was officially chartered at the Centre Avenue YMCA by one of the founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The founding members immediately began to provide service to Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities. They made high scholastic achievement, sincere sisterhood, and high moral standards a priority; and,
WHEREAS, Alpha Alpha Omega adheres to their motto "Service to Mankind" dearly. Since its original charter, Alpha Alpha Omega has upheld the ideals of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority by carrying out the organization’s international programs. The chapter is proud of its leadership, including several past and present members who have extended their service as National officers; and,
WHEREAS, Alpha Alpha Omega is also the mentoring graduate chapter to six undergraduate chapters: Iota (University of Pittsburgh), Alpha Sigma (Pittsburgh City Wide Chapter, which includes: Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Duquesne University and Robert Morris University), Kappa Beta (California University of PA), Kappa Zeta (Clarion University), Mu Omicron (Slippery Rock University), and Rho Rho (Indiana University of PA); and,
WHEREAS, today, Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter has an active membership of more than 180 college-educated women who are dedicated to continuing its positive impact on both the Pittsburgh and global community. Alpha Alpha Omega regularly collaborates with other organizations to promote its International Program target areas of Educational Enrichment, Family Strengthening, Childhood Hunger, Health Promotion, Environmental Ownership and Global Impact; and,
WHEREAS, as a local organization, Alpha Alpha Omega members consider themselves Women of Service. In 2015, Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter redoubled the dedication and commitment started in 1927 to live Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s mission of “Service to All Mankind.” Chapter members volunteered at least 6 hours of service per month to our community. As a chapter, they collectively achieved 21,908 hours of service to the community and supported approximately 68,500 people in the greater Pittsburgh community.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Alpha Alpha Omega’s for its dedication to our community and commitment to volunteerism; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Friday, January 15, 2016 as “Alpha Alpha Omega Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
