Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish Ken a resounding Happy 95th Birthday; and,?? BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 28, 2025 to be "Ken Cole Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.??

WHEREAS, Ken was born on June 28, 1930 to William and Sarah Dalzell Cole.  Along with his brother, Bill, he grew up on Fisk Street in Lawrenceville.  While attending Schenley High School (Class of 1949), he met Joan Garforth, the love of his life, and,  

 

WHEREAS, Ken served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951-1955, marrying “Joanie” in 1953 and,  

 

WHEREAS, Ken and Joan built their forever home in Monroeville in 1957 where Ken still resides and where Laurie, Doug, Gary and Sari were raised and where Ken enjoys visits by bonus daughters, Darlene and Lori, and grandchildren Barbara, Travis, Michelle, David, Danielle, Jessica and Juan and great-grandchildren Abby, Lilly, Michael, Ellie and Baby Penaranda (on the way) and,  

 

WHEREAS, Ken built a successful real estate business, working seven days a week in the early days to take care of his young family.  As the family grew, an environment of love, respect and fun was nurtured that is not only reflected in the close relationships with his children but also with their relations with each other.  Ken also provided much-appreciated support and encouragement for their future careers and families, and,  

 

WHEREAS, Ken has been active in the same church for over 60 years, has preserved decades-long friendships and maintained relationships with extended family of nieces and nephews whose love and commitment to him speaks to his qualities and,

WHEREAS, at age 95, Ken continues to enjoy his family, his friends, his golf, his church, his local ice cream shop and yelling at the Steelers each fall, and  

 

WHEREAS, as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and person of faith, Ken exemplifies how one man positively impacts the lives of so many by his actions, his character and his love, and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish Ken a resounding Happy 95th Birthday; and,  

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 28, 2025 to be “Ken Cole Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
