Title: WHEREAS, The Westinghouse Academy Football Team combines resiliency, hard work, discipline, passion, and a strong will to win. They are the 2023-2024 Pittsburgh School District City League Champions; and

WHEREAS, The Westinghouse Academy Football Team combines resiliency, hard work, discipline, passion, and a strong will to win. They are the 2023-2024 Pittsburgh School District City League Champions; and

WHEREAS, Westinghouse Academy’s City League dominance has been on display since winning the championship in 2019. The Westinghouse Bulldogs have won 4 City League Championships in the last five years. On the State Level 3 PIAA Sub-Regional Championships (which includes Districts 5 & 8), back-to-back appearances in the Class 2A Pennsylvania State Championship finals. The mighty, mighty Bulldogs have amassed a remarkable 50-8 record since 2019 and 20 student scholar-athletes who have successfully enrolled in various colleges & universities throughout the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, this year’s remarkable team is under the leadership of 13 unforgettable seniors and eight impressive underclassmen who had a 13-1 season in 2023. The team’s exceptional season has produced 14 members selected to the Pittsburgh City League All-Conference 1st and 2nd Football teams. Raymon Poindexter, Zecheriah Hines, Sincere Shannon, Vaughn Allie, Michael Harvey, Tyjuane Abram, Michael Richardson, Josiah Collins, Taymir O’Neal, Diop Jones, Musa Bangora, KyShawn Robinson, Khalil Green, and Lloyd Penn. Head Coach Donta Green was selected as the Coach of the Year; Assistant Coach James Cowart was chosen as the Assistant Coach of the Year; Tyjuane Abram was Player of the Year; and Vaughn Allie was Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Bulldogs were well-represented at the state level. Head Coach Donta Green 2A Coach of the Year, Tyjuane Abram, Taymir O’Neal, and Michael Richardson were selected to the Class 2A All-State Team, and Tyjuane Abram is the 1st Team All-State Defensive Athlete; and

 

WHEREAS, The success of the Westinghouse Academy Bulldogs is primarily due to the unbelievable work ethic of the players and dedicated coaches. However, their success is rooted in the academic, social, and personal development programs operated from January to June. Programs such as STATS (Students Taking Action To Succeed), A Call To Men, Coaching Boys Into Men, Internships, Study Table, College Workshops, Career Exploration, and Parent Engagement are the systems in place that make it work.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh, the President of Council, and the District 9 City Councilman do hereby proclaim Tuesday, February 20, 2024, “Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy High School Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
