Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Ten Year Anniversary of the Carnegie Science Center Awards, commends the Carnegie Science Center for continuing to raise the profile of science in our everyday lives, and thanks the Carnegie Science Center Awardees for excellence in innovation.

WHEREAS, for the past ten years, the Carnegie Science Center has annually celebrated the most outstanding recent achievements in science and technology in Southwestern Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, the Carnegie Science Center Awards for Excellence raise public awareness of the place of science in our daily lives as well as underscore the interrelationship of schools and universities, research laboratories, business development and job creation in our region; and
 
WHEREAS, the 2006 Carnegie Science Center Award for Excellence Honorees are:
  • McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Chairman's Award; and
  • John J. Craig and F. Gary Kovac, Supply Systems, Inc., Advanced Manufacturing & Materials; and
  • Red Whittaker, Ph.D., Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, Catalyst; and
  • Vocollect, Corporate Innovation; and
  • Scott Sundgren, South Fayette Township School District, Elementary Educator; and
  • Lawrence Rhoades, The Ex One Company, Entrepreneur; and
  • Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Environmental; and
  • Nicholas S. Kovacic, Greene County Career and Technology Center, High School Educator; and

WHEREAS, this year's Carnegie Science Center Honorees will receive their awards at a gala event to be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, May 3, 2006, at the Carnegie Music Hall, featuring world-renowned futurist and leading technology forecaster Daniel Burrus.
