Title: Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Pittsburgh City Council commends and recognizes the Downtown YMCA of Pittsburgh for their tremendous contributions to the City of Pittsburgh. We also extend our appreciation to the participating branches of the YMCA for opening their doors to the public during Healthy 4 Life celebration.

Whereas, On March 27, 2004, The Downtown YMCA of Pittsburgh celebrates 150 years of community service, this date marks the anniversary date of the first Annual Meeting held in 1854; and
 
Whereas, The Downtown YMCA in working with WTAE in promoting healthy lifestyles will be participating in Healthy 4 Life, Eight Branches of the Association will host a variety of activities including screenings like blood pressure and chiropractic access to health and nutrition experts, and use of the facilities, all for free; and
 
Whereas, In 1986 the Downtown YMCA on the Boulevard of the Allies was completed we must acknowledge the roles the YMCA has played since it's arrival in Pittsburgh in 1854.  They introduced a four-fold YMCA emphasizing spiritual heritage, social, physical, and intellectual programs; and
 
Whereas, The Downtown YMCA of Pittsburgh is involved in a myriad of community programming; after school programs, summer day camp, swimming lessons, CPR certification, and even providing physical education class to several high school students; and
 
Whereas, In January of 2002 the Downtown YMCA became one of four branches to participate in the HighMark Silver Sneakers Program - leading the industry in preventative treatment via regular exercise, striking Pittsburgh's aging demographic.  This benchmark program encourages wellness promotion and illness prevention, minimizes aging related physical deterioration, improving health and skill related fitness components, and increases the sense of well being; and
 
Whereas, The Downtown YMCA of Pittsburgh, a leader in human services, experts in Health and Wellness, and the largest child care provider in Western Pennsylvania is celebrating 150 years of serving the Pittsburgh community.  The Downtown YMCA of Pittsburgh has committed itself to continuing the well being of our communities for over a century and a half.
