Title: WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition is a non-profit community group dedicated to preserving and improving the quality of life in the 14th Ward of the City of Pittsburgh; and, WHEREAS, members of the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition work to provide leadership to the community by studying, debating and advocating positions on issues affecting the neighborhood's vitality reflected through a long range planning process which fosters community based initiatives in housing, education, transportation, commercial, residential and institutional development and parks and open spaces ; and, WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition is holding its Citizens of the Year Awards Dinner on Thursday, October 25, 2007, at the Holiday Inn Oakland to honor three outstanding citizens who best represent the mission and goals of the organization ; and, WHEREAS, the 2007 Citizens of the Year are Bicky Goldszer, Dr. Raul Valdes-Perez and David Miles ; and, WHEREAS, Bicky Goldszer is being hono...

WHEREAS, Bicky Goldszer is being honored for her activism and remarkable dedication to her community and to children ; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Raul Valdes-Perez is being honored for his outstanding career in computer technology and for bringing his successful venture, Vivisimo, to the heart of Squirrel Hill ; and,
 
WHEREAS, David Miles is being honored for his remarkable 30 year career with The Children's Institute, seeing it through restructuring, system changes and healthcare transitions to make it one of our community's jewels. David has also served as the President of the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Bicky Goldszer, Dr. Raul Valdez-Perez and David Miles for being recognized and honored as the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition's Citizens of the Year for their commitment to their respective work and to their community; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, October 25, 2007, to be "SQUIRREL HILL URBAN COALITION DAY"  in the City of Pittsburgh.
