WHEREAS, the 2021-2022 school year has proven to be a very successful year for the Bishop Canevin High School Athletic Department; and,

WHEREAS, Saturday, November 6, 2021, Bishop Canevin became the first school since Farrell to win five consecutive WPIAL girls volleyball titles during the Class A finals held at the UPMC Events Center on the campus of Robert Morris University, upsetting Greensburg Central Catholic 3-1; and,
WHEREAS, Friday, November 26, 2021, Bishop Canevin Football Team claimed its first WPIAL championship in 31 years with a 42-7 win over Our Lady of Sacred Heart. This is the second WPIAL football title for the Crusaders, who won over Washington in the 1990 2A championship game; and,
WHEREAS, the Crusaders celebrate again on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Petersen Events Center when the Boys Basketball Team won the WPIAL Class A championship game against Union 58-45; and,
WHEREAS, Saturday, March 5, 2022 marks the date that the Class A Girls Basketball Team celebrated a WPIAL championship at the Petersen Events Center against Aquinas Academy with a 59-40 win; and,
WHEREAS, finally, Thursday, March 24, 2022 marked an historic event when the Bishop Canevin Boys Basketball Team became PIAA Class A Boys State Champions, defeating St. John Newmann 64-47. This is the first time a boys team won a PIAA Title for the school, and the fourth PIAA State Championship for Canevin since 1999; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin Athletic Department credits each championship to the dedication and hard work of their teams, which are made up of unselfish players who work together and make sacrifices, regardless of their individual roles; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Bishop Canevin Athletics Department for a prosperous school year; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, May 31, 2022 to be “Bishop Canevin Athletics Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
