WHEREAS, Christy Porter is a visionary leader, founder, and Executive Director whose life’s work has transformed communities through education, empowerment, and unwavering service; and
WHEREAS, Christy Porter established the Jasmine Nyree Campus, a pioneering multi-state center dedicated to serving children and adults with special needs, offering programs that promote independence, dignity, compassion, and lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership, the Campus has expanded to include an Adult Training Facility, youth programs, respite care, supportive housing initiatives, community food programs, and the soon-to-open Dr. Phillip Birdine Charter School, making it the first behavioral-focused charter school of its kind in Western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Christy Porter’s dedication extends beyond organizational leadership, as she has mobilized resources and partnerships to strengthen communities-providing thousands of hot meals, annual turkey and backpack giveaways, holiday outreach programs, and essential services for families, seniors, and youth in need, while inspiring support from partners such as Del Monte Foods, The Pittsburgh Steelers, Giant Eagle, community leaders, government agencies, and national organizations through her integrity, perseverance, and heart for giving; and
WHEREAS, Christy Porter’s accomplishments are rooted in the unwavering love and support of her family. She is the beloved wife of Joey Porter Sr., a celebrated NFL legend and Hall of Honor inductee, whose dedication as a husband and father mirrors Christy’s own commitment to family, service, and excellence; and
WHEREAS, together, Christy and Joey have built a strong and inspiring family legacy through their four children: Joey Porter Jr., whose journey to the NFL as a Pittsburgh Steeler reflects the values of hard work, humility, and resilience instilled by his parents; Jacob, a devoted scholar preparing to enter the field of law; Jailah, whose leadership and passion support the daily operations and heart of the Jasmine Nyree Campus; and Jasmine Nyree, whose strength, spirit, and namesake inspire the very mission and purpose of the entire organization; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Christy Porter for her unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and extraordinary service in creating spaces where individuals with special needs can receive the guidance, support, and care they deserve; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, December 8, 2025 to be “Christy Porter Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
