Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to sincerely commend the Schenley Spartans for the exemplary skills and admirable sportsmanship that they have displayed throughout the course of this past season; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in light of these tremendous attributes as displayed by the Spartans, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares today, Tuesday, April 4th, 2006, "Schenley Spartan Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, based upon their diligent and concentrated efforts, the 2005-2006 Schenley Spartans Boys Varsity Basketball Team has achieved numerous successes during the past season; and WHEREAS, all of the team members, including Sophomores Greg Blair, Deandre Kane, and Clayton Jackson, Juniors DeJuan Blair, Jamaal Bryant, D.J. Kennedy, Raymar McClain, and Micheal Hickman, and Seniors Gerald Brooks, D.C. Clancy, David Hall, and Brandon McLaughlin, have each played a significant role in making the 2005-2006 team into an awesome force on the court; and
WHEREAS, the Spartans' Head Coach, Fred Skrocki, and the team's Athletic Director, Ken Saybel, along with Assistant Coaches Jim Trent, Derek Shelton, Jason Session, and Debbie Lewis, have worked together in order to organize and hone the talents of both the individual players and the team in its entirety; and
WHEREAS, Sage Velasquez, in her role as the Spartans' statistician, and Andre Jones, Kier Johnson, and Michael Harris, having acted in their role as team managers, have also been of great support to the team in all of its ongoing efforts; and
WHEREAS Schenley High Principal Howard D. Bullard, along with all of the school's administrative and support staff have also played their unique parts in assisting the team throughout the course of the season; and
WHEREAS throughout the 2005-2006 season and during the many years since passed, numerous family members and friends have helped to sustain the team with their own on-going gifts of encouragement and love; and
WHEREAS the Schenley High Cheerleaders, the current Schenley High students, and the Schenley High alumni have all shown the team and Pittsburgh what it means to have true school spirit; and
WHEREAS all of this support, along with the God-given talents of the individual team members, resulted in a journey that ultimately ended in Hershey, Pennsylvania, at the PIAA Class AAAA Championships; and
WHEREAS Pittsburgh First (a collaborative effort between Pittsburgh First, Isle of Capri Casinos, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Nationwide Reality Investors), the POISE Foundation, the Pittsburgh Steelers,  Flora's Catering, Dick's Sporting Goods, Ace Athletic, and Teresa Hawthorne have all helped to make today's celebration a day that the Spartans will truly remember; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in light of these tremendous attributes as displayed by the Spartans, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares today, Tuesday, April 4th, 2006, "Schenley Spartan Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
