Title: WHEREAS on November 17, 1911, three undergraduate, Howard University students, namely, Edgar A. Love, Oscar J. Cooper, and Frank Coleman, assisted by the support of their faculty advisor, Dr. Ernest E. Just, gave birth to the idea that would soon become the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity; and WHEREAS derived from the first letters of the Greek phrase meaning, "Friendship is Essential to the Soul," the group selected the name OMEGA PSI PHI for itself, while additionally adopting the cardinal principles of "Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift;" and WHEREAS the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity persisted until it was recognized as a national rather than a strictly local organization; and WHEREAS throughout the years of its nearly, century-long existence, the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity has accomplished a great deal on behalf of the greater, African American community by identifying itself as an organization that was and continues to be committed to the on-going struggle for the recogni...

WHEREAS the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity has also added to the stature of our national esteem by producing a number of world-renowned leaders, scholars, and professionals who have made invaluable contributions within their chosen fields; and
 
WHEREAS from May 3rd, 2007 through May 6th, 2007, the IOTA PHI Chapter of the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. will be hosting its 59th Annual, 2nd District Conference to be held at the Westin Convention Center, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS the theme for this year's conference will be, "Economic Empowerment Leading to Social and Political Change," with the conference agenda to include a wide variety of organizational, professional, and social events.
 
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby wish to commend and thank all past and present brothers of the OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity , and in particular, the brothers of OMEGA PSI PHI's IOTA PHI Chapter, for utilizing their organizational unity and personal talents toward improving our communities.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby also wish to welcome the IOTA PHI Chapter of OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. to our city, as they prepare to host their upcoming, 59th Annual, 2nd District Conference.
