WHEREAS, Mr. Tom Tighe was born and raised in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh and has been an advocate for his community since; and,

WHEREAS, Tom attended St. Mary of the Mount High School. He received a Labor Relations degree from The Phillip Murray Institute of Labor and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He earned a Master of Arts in Industrial Relations from St. Francis University; and,
WHEREAS, he worked as a Stationary Engineer, Electrician and Chief Engineer with Local 95 in Pittsburgh. He served as Director of Stationary Affairs working with local unions throughout the United States and Canada and as Petro-Chemical Coordinator for the IUOE; and
WHEREAS, in 1985, Mr. Tighe became the Founding Member of the Grandview Social Club of Mt. Washington. He is also the President of the HOA at 1000 Grandview Association, Inc., a member of the Board of Directors of the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation (MWCDC), and the Co-Chair of the MWCDC Development Committee, which helps to promote businesses on the Mount. He is also the President of the Greens at Wisp Home Owners Association located in Maryland; and,
WHEREAS, as a Board Member of the MWCDC, he voluntarily worked with the City of Pittsburgh, Council President Theresa Kail Smith, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5111, on a banner project honoring those from Mount Washington who served in the military; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, he is the President and founding member of the Mt. Washington Hall of Fame as part of the annual Mike Awards, honoring the late Mike Creighton, at which Mr. Tighe was named the “St. Mary of the Mount distinguished Alumni” in 2019; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Mr. Tom Tighe for his volunteerism and dedication to the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Mount Washington; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, August 7, 2022 to be “Tom Tighe Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
