Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Alichia Parker for her dedication and commitment to education and embrace her heart-felt motto, “What children can do with assistance today, they will be able to do by themselves tomorrow”; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 22, 2013, to be “Alichia R Parker Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Alichia R. Parker  graduated from Langley High School  and is earning her Master's degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh in Instruction and Learning where she was nominated, approved, and selected to be the first recipient of the Alice Jones Drew Endowment for Student Resources; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 2007, Alichia founded and is the President of A PAR Educational, LLC in order to enhance the learning ability of children including private tutoring, consulting and training, technical assistance and evaluation all from the homes of her clients; and,
 
WHEREAS, in November, 2011, Alichia and business partner Denise Barron opened the doors to Malaika Learning Center in Brighton Heights as a learning center and after school program for students grades K-12, which emphasizes the uniqueness of all children and provides unlimited possibilities for all learning styles including using a line of creative games which Ms. Parker created; and,
 
WHEREAS, furthermore, she operates a Training and Development center and has served as an independent educational consultant/trainer for various profit/non-profit organizations including, Centre Avenue YMCA, Hazelwood YWCA, and United Way Pittsburgh; and,                      
 
WHEREAS, Alichia is rapidly gaining national attention with her workshop "Setting the Mood; The right learning environment makes the difference", which was accepted by two Early Education conferences; one held in New York and one in York, PA and in August, 2013 her book "My Aunt and Me" was released; and,  
 
WHEREAS, in addition, Ms. Parker contributes her passion for learning to community initiatives such as her most recent endeavor as co-founder of the North Side Pulse Association, whose mission is to help at-risk youth; and,
