WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hill of Fame was established in 1986 to honor and recognize Western Pennsylvania's outstanding Italian American athletes and notable members of the Italian American community who have distinguished themselves through their significant contributions both on an off the playing field; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Chapter has inducted over 100 Italian American athletes from the Greater Pittsburgh region, some who are nationally known athletes, others who are amateurs who made their impact on the local sporting scene representing a wide array of sports, including baseball, football, boxing, soccer and auto racing; and,
WHEREAS, each year, the Pittsburgh Chapter, in addition to induction, presents achievement awards to outstanding individuals in the community and scholarships to exceptional Italian American students in financial need; and,
WHEREAS, the following individuals will be honored at the 22nd Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet to be held on Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Westin Conventional Hotel:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does convey its best wishes to the new inductees and the honorees and does hereby declare Sunday, March 30, 2008 to be "Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
