WHEREAS, Allegheny General Hospital’s cardiothoracic surgery program has been synonymous with utilizing revolutionary methods, performing landmark procedures, and providing innovation and an unwavering commitment to the community for seven decades; and,
WHEREAS, Allegheny Health Network’s nationally recognized Cardiovascular Institute provides comprehensive care for the complete spectrum of cardiovascular disease, with medical specialists in general and interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, diagnostic cardiology, women’s heart care, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, vascular surgery and wound care, thoracic surgery, heart valve disease, and coronary artery bypass surgery; and,
WHEREAS, Allegheny Health Network has developed less-invasive techniques for heart bypass surgery and valve replacements through groundbreaking cardiovascular research, helping heart patients to lead more productive lives after surgery, and further contributing to its record of outstanding patient care; and,
WHEREAS, on Friday, November 3, 2017, physicians from the Cardiovascular Institute will be joined by grateful patients for a special evening at Allegheny General Hospital to celebrate 60 years of excellence and innovation in cardiovascular medicine and surgery, reflecting on the past and present and how their experiences helped to shape Allegheny Health Network’s contributions to cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the Allegheny Health Network Cardiovascular Institute for pioneering novel life-enhancing and life-saving cardiovascular surgical procedures and medical therapies while always keeping the patient at the heart of all it does; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, November 3, 2017 to be “Allegheny Health Network Cardiovascular Institute Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
